DIVINUM OFFICIUM Antiphon

Antiphona 5 ad Laudes

Dominica I Passionis - Passion Sunday Lauds

About This Prayer

This fifth Lauds antiphon for Passion Sunday draws from Jeremiah 18:20: 'Shall evil be rendered for good, because they have digged a pit for my soul?' Jeremiah's complaint against his persecutors is applied to Christ. The antiphon emphasizes the injustice of the Passion: Christ receives evil in return for the good of redemption.
