Responsorium IX - Nocturn III
Fourth Sunday of Lent (Laetare), Nocturn III, Responsory 3 - Gloria Patri omitted in Lent
About This Prayer
This final responsory for Laetare Sunday proclaims John 6:51: 'I am the living bread which came down from heaven; if any man eat of this bread, he shall live forever.' The Bread of Life discourse culminates in this eucharistic promise. On Laetare Sunday, with Easter approaching, the responsory anticipates the Paschal Communion that concludes the Lenten fast.
