DIVINUM OFFICIUM Responsory

Responsorium VI - Nocturn II

Second Sunday of Lent, Nocturn II, Responsory 3

About This Prayer

This responsory for the Second Sunday of Lent recalls Jacob's vow to give tithes: 'The Lord shall be my God, and this stone which I have set up for a title shall be called the house of God; and of all that thou shalt give to me, I will offer tithes to thee' (Genesis 28:21-22). The stone prefigures Christ the cornerstone; the tithe prefigures the offering of one's life.
