Compline of Good Friday

Good Friday: 'mortem autem crucis' added to antiphon. Gloria Patri omitted. No Marian antiphon.

About This Prayer

This rubrical direction for Good Friday Compline adds 'mortem autem crucis' to the Christus factus est antiphon, marking the completion of Christ's obedience unto death on the Cross. The stripped liturgy continues: no Gloria Patri, no Marian antiphon, silent conclusions. The Church accompanies Christ through death, awaiting the Resurrection.
