Common of Virgin Martyrs - Lauds Hymn

'Iesu, Corona Virginum' (Jesus, Crown of Virgins) names Christ as both source and reward of virginity. The paradox of the opening - 'Quem Mater illa concipit quae sola Virgo parturit' (whom that Mother conceived who alone gave birth as Virgin) - grounds human virginity in Mary's virginal maternity. The prayer 'haec vota clemens accipe' (graciously receive these vows) presents virginal consecration as vowed offering. At Lauds, this hymn connects the virgin martyr's consecration to Christ's own origin from a Virgin Mother, making her virginity participate in the Incarnation mystery.
