DIVINUM OFFICIUM Responsory

Responsorium Breve

Common of Confessors - Terce Brief Responsory

About This Prayer

This responsory elaborates Sirach 45:1-3's description of Moses, applied to confessors. The sequence 'Amavit...ornavit...induit' (loved...adorned...clothed) traces grace's operation: God's love precedes, adornment with virtues follows, and the glory-robe is final. The 'stola gloriae' anticipates the resurrection body's glory (1 Corinthians 15:43) and the white robes of the blessed (Apocalypse 7:9). At Terce, when the Spirit came at Pentecost, this responsory attributes the confessor's holiness entirely to divine initiative: loved first, then adorned, then glorified - pure grace throughout.
