Common of Confessors - Sext Chapter

About This Prayer

Wisdom 10:10b continues the preceding verse, describing God's gifts to Jacob/the confessor. The 'scientia sanctorum' (knowledge of holy things) indicates not mere information but wisdom - sapential knowledge that transforms the knower. 'Honestavit illum in laboribus' can mean both 'made him honorable through labors' and 'enriched him in his labors' - either God rewarded his work or made the work itself glorious. At Sext, the hour when Christ labored on the cross, this reading sanctifies all human labor as potentially revelatory of divine wisdom.
