This responsory combines Judith 13:18's blessing of Judith with Luke 1:42's blessing of Mary. 'Benedicta filia tu a Domino' (Blessed daughter art thou by the Lord) - the 'a Domino' indicates divine source of blessing. The versicle 'per te fructum vitae communicavimus' (through thee we have shared the fruit of life) makes explicit that Mary's blessedness consists in mediating Christ to humanity - she gave us access to the Tree of Life that Eve lost. At None, Christ's hour of death, this responsory presents Mary as the new Eve through whom humanity receives the life that the first Eve forfeited.
