Antiphona 3 ad Laudes
Feria IV Cinerum - Ash Wednesday Lauds
About This Prayer
This third Lauds antiphon for Ash Wednesday draws from Joel 2:17: 'Between the porch and the altar the priests, the Lord's ministers, shall weep and shall say: Spare, O Lord, spare thy people.' The image of priests weeping between vestibule and altar expresses corporate ecclesial repentance. The antiphon presents the Lenten fast as the Church's collective plea for mercy.
