REQVIEM AETERNAM
Eternal Rest
About This Prayer
The Requiem Aeternam is the foundational prayer for the dead in the Roman Rite, deriving from the Introit of the Requiem Mass (4 Esdras 2:34-35). Its petition for 'eternal rest' and 'perpetual light' expresses the Catholic doctrine that the faithful departed may require purification before entering the Beatific Vision.
