LITANIAE SACRATISSIMI CORDIS

The Litany of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

About This Prayer

The Litany of the Sacred Heart was approved for public recitation by Pope Leo XIII in 1899. The devotion arose from revelations to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque at Paray-le-Monial (1673-1675). The 33 invocations correspond to the years of Christ's earthly life, progressing through the Heart's divine nature, attributes, and role as source of all grace.
