DIVINUM OFFICIUM Collect

Collecta

Sacred Heart - Collect

About This Prayer

The collect addresses God who 'in Corde Filii tui, nostris vulnerato peccatis' (in the Heart of thy Son, wounded by our sins) bestows 'infinitos dilectionis thesauros' (infinite treasures of love). The theology is precise: our sins wounded Christ's Heart, yet from that wound flows infinite love - the paradox of felix culpa extended to Calvary. The petition asks that we render 'devotum pietatis nostrae obsequium' (devout homage of our affection) and 'dignae satisfactionis officium' (worthy office of reparation). The double request pairs love with reparation: Sacred Heart devotion is not merely affective but penitential. The phrase 'nostris vulnerato peccatis' places responsibility squarely: not 'the Jews' or 'the soldiers' but our sins wounded Him.

LATINE
Deus, qui nobis in Corde Filii tui, nostris vulnerato peccatis, infinitos dilectionis thesauros misericorditer largiri dignaris; concede, quaesumus, ut illi devotum pietatis nostrae praestantes obsequium, dignae quoque satisfactionis exhibeamus officium. Per eumdem Dominum.
ENGLISH
O God, who dost mercifully deign to bestow on us in the Heart of thy Son, wounded by our sins, an infinite treasure of love; grant, we beseech thee, that rendering it the devout homage of our affection, we may also make a worthy reparation for our sins. Through the same.
