This Magnificat antiphon for Passion Sunday Second Vespers draws from John 8:56: 'Abraham, your father, rejoiced that he might see my day; he saw it and was glad.' Christ's claim to pre-existence before Abraham leads to the Jews' attempt to stone Him. The antiphon connects the Passion to Abraham's sacrifice of Isaac, the great Old Testament type.
