DIVINUM OFFICIUM Versicle

Versiculus

Versicle after the brief response at None in Lent.

About This Prayer

This versicle at None during Lent draws from Psalm 90:11 (Vulgate): 'For he hath given his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.' None, prayed at the ninth hour, commemorates Christ's death on the Cross. The versicle, quoted by Satan in the temptation narrative (Matthew 4:6), is reclaimed by the Church as assurance of angelic protection during spiritual warfare.
