Responsorium II - Nocturn I
Easter Sunday, Nocturn I, Responsory 2
About This Prayer
The second responsory of the first nocturn of Easter Matins, recounting the visit of the myrrh-bearing women to the tomb (Mark 16:1-2). 'When the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary of James, and Salome bought aromatic spices to anoint Jesus.' Their intended anointing becomes instead witness to the empty tomb.
