Responsorium I - Nocturn I
Fourth Sunday of Advent, Nocturn I, Responsory 1
About This Prayer
"Canite tuba in Sion" draws on Joel 2:1 and Sophonias 1:14-16, apocalyptic trumpet calls announcing the Day of the Lord. By Advent IV, prophetic urgency reaches its peak: "prope est dies Domini" (the day of the Lord is nigh). Yet the refrain transforms judgment into salvation: "He will come to save us." The double alleluia marks joy breaking through Advent's sobriety as Christmas approaches.
