Antiphona 3
Common of Confessors - Lauds Antiphon 3
About This Prayer
Wisdom 10:10b-11a describes God's gifts to Jacob, liturgically applied to confessors. 'Honestavit illum in laboribus' (made him honorable through labors) indicates that the confessor's work was not merely tolerated but transformed into honor - labor became glorious. 'Complevit labores illius' (completed his labors) means both that God brought the confessor's works to fruition and that God himself fulfilled what the confessor attempted. At Lauds, as a new day's labor begins, this antiphon promises that faithful work will be honored and completed by God himself.
