Common of Feasts of the Blessed Virgin Mary - Lauds Chapter from Ecclesiasticus 24:14

About This Prayer

Sirach 24:9-10 provides this extended Wisdom text applied to Mary. The 'habitatio sancta' (holy dwelling) where Wisdom serves identifies both the Temple and Mary herself as God's true temple. The verbs - 'creata sum,' 'non desinam,' 'ministravi' (I was created, I shall not cease, I ministered) - present Wisdom's eternal existence and ongoing ministry. At Lauds, this reading presents Mary as the one in whom divine Wisdom truly dwelt - her service before God continues eternally, her ministry in heaven complementing her earthly fiat.
