Oratio
Common of Feasts of the Blessed Virgin Mary - Collect
About This Prayer
This collect addresses God while invoking Mary's intercession: 'gloriosa intercessione.' The petition for 'perpetua mentis et corporis sanitate' (perpetual health of mind and body) asks for complete human flourishing. The 'praesenti liberari tristitia' (be freed from present sorrow) acknowledges the Church's current suffering. The 'aeterna perfrui laetitia' (enjoy eternal gladness) states the ultimate goal. Mary's intercession mediates both temporal relief and eternal joy. The collect presents Mary as active intercessor whose prayers achieve for us what we cannot achieve alone.
