Antiphona 2

'In patientia vestra possidebitis animas vestras' (Luke 21:19) comes from Christ's eschatological discourse predicting persecution for His followers. The Vulgate's 'possidebitis' (you shall possess) carries the sense of gaining ownership over one's own soul through endurance. Unlike Stoic patience as mere resignation, Christian patientia is active perseverance rooted in the hope of resurrection. At Vespers, as darkness approaches, this text prepares the one praying for the night watches of spiritual combat, promising that endurance through trial leads to possession of eternal life.
