Feria IV Cinerum - Ash Wednesday Lauds

This first Lauds antiphon for Ash Wednesday draws from Psalm 68:17 (Vulgate): 'Hear us, O Lord, for thy mercy is kind; look upon us according to the multitude of thy tender mercies.' Ash Wednesday inaugurates the forty-day Lenten fast. The antiphon establishes the penitential tone while appealing to God's mercy as the ground of hope for sinners.
