"Urbs fortitudinis nostrae Sion" (Sion is the city of our strength) from Isaias 26:1-2 presents the Saviour as wall and bulwark. The command to open gates echoes Psalm 23's "Lift up your gates." The assurance "nobiscum Deus" (God with us) anticipates Emmanuel.
