December 18 - Vespers Magnificat Alternative Antiphon

This alternative Magnificat antiphon draws on Isaias 52:2's liberation imagery: Jerusalem arising, loosing the bands of her neck. The "captive daughter of Zion" freed from bondage figures the soul's redemption. When the O Adonai antiphon is used for Magnificat, this text may frame another canticle or serve as commemoration.
