December 17 - Lauds Antiphon 1

December 17 begins the "Greater Antiphons" or O Antiphon period. This Lauds antiphon quotes Isaias 11:1 (Jesse's rod) combined with Isaias 40:5 and 52:10 (all flesh seeing God's salvation). The earth being filled with divine glory connects Jesse's shoot to universal revelation. The O Sapientia antiphon later this day initiates the final Advent countdown.

Egredietur virga de radice Jesse, et replebitur omnis terra gloria Domini: et videbit omnis caro salutare Dei.
ENGLISH
There shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and the whole earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord, and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.
